I've been using unix for so long now, and I read the first three paragraphs before I realized that you were talking about undoing mistakes, and not backgrounding a program.

I wish life had a background command, too.

There is an entire class of people who avoid using technology because they're afraid. They don't fear the software, they fear that they're going to do something with the software that will put them into a state from which they can't escape.

Making the escape easier is great (Undo). As you noted, designing software and websites that prevent the user from making it in the first place is even better.

But your real question: what stuff do I see that I wish would go away? Errors without details. What does it mean that I clicked "submit" and got a generic error. Did anything happen? Was my data saved? Should I enter it again? If I take a few minutes and enter it again, will I get another error when I submit again? Give me some details.
